Abstract

535,400. Closures for bottles and like. BRITISH COLLOIDS, Ltd., and THOMPSON, F. J. W. Oct. 24, 1939, No. 28587. [Class 125 (iii)] A bottle, particularly one used with a transfusion cannula or the like, has a closure comprising an outlet tube 2 carrying a resilient gland member 10 of cylindrical form which can be compressed longitudinally between a nut 7 and a manipulating member 11 so that it is expanded into the neck of the bottle. An air inlet 3 is provided on the tube 2 and is connected by a pipe 17 witn a bent end 18 to the bottom of the bottle. The lower end of the tube 5 is slightly reduced in diameter and is threaded to receive the member 11. A plunger member 13 is arranged between the member 11 and the gland 10. This plunger is depressed when the member 11 is screwed downwards to force the gland against the interior of the bottle neck, and it carries an annular washer 14 of indiarubber which is pressed against the tip of the bottle neck. The bottle neck may be shaped to receive the expanded gland and an air filter may be attached to the inlet 3. A stopper 19 may be attached to the bottle to seal it during transit.
