Abstract
442,597. Tapping casks. BARNES, F. J. T.,184, Breakfast Creek Road, Newstead, Brisbane, Australia. Aug. 10, 1934, No. 23195. [Class 21] Apparatus for drawing off liquids from containers comprises a bush 14 in the bunghole of the container, a hollow rubber stopper 11 within the bush, a tap or adaptor 36 having a screw-thread engagement with the bush and arranged to expel the stopper from the bush, and an extension on the tap &c. which positively engages the stopper and retracts it into closing position when the tap &c. is withdrawn. As shown in Figs. 1, 3, 6, a nipple 25 has a lefthand thread to engage the tap stem 36 and a tapered right-hand thread 26 to engage the stopper, the tapered end and the loose washer 31 passing into the recess 35 in the stopper as shown in Fig. 6, a recess 33 in the bush 14 allowing the end of the stopper to expand temporarily. When the tap is screwed into the bush 14, a seal is made by the resilient washer 37 before the stopper is ejected, and is not broken until after the stopper is again retracted into the bush. The flow of liquid is regulated by pushing the stopper more or less beyond the end of the bush 14. The tap 46, Fig. 8, has an internal left-hand thread to engage a screw 45 secured to the stopper 40 by a nut 42. As shown in Fig. 11, the stopper 40 is moulded round a projection 52 of the screw 45.
