A. c. WEBER SYRINGE Filed Jan. 1.1, 1923 vwcnfoz attozmq Alber i mber Fatentecl Mar. 10, 1925.
ALBERT C. WEBER, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
SYRINGE.
Application filed January 11, 1923. Serial No. 612,079.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT C. 15mm, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Syringes, of which the following is a specification.
My said invention relates to a combined syringe and douche and has for its objects to provide a simple and convenient device of this character which can easily be taken apart and cleaned and to provide for air pressure on the water in the container, while preventing air from entering the parts in advance of water.
Referring to the accompanying drawing which is made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
The single figure is a vertical section of the device.
In the drawings reference character 10 indicates the body of a. container for liquids this being of any convenient size and shape and being made of glass or other non-corrodible materials. The container is provided with a cap 11 adapted to be held firmly in place by a clamp 12 engaging ears 18 on the body of the container. A screw 14 serves to tighten the cap on the body, the screw engaging the top of the cap and having threaded engagement with the clamp. A packing ring of rubber or the like may be interposed between the body 10 and the cap 11.
At the lower end of the body is a skirt 15 and a bent outlet tube 16 passes through a hole in the skirt and through a central opening in the bottom 17 of the container. Flanges 18 and 19 on the tube assist in holding the same in place. A wingnut 2O inside the body 10 draws the flange 19 closely up against the bottom and a washer or washers may be added to insure against leakage. The pipe 16 terminates in an enlargement 21 and is provided with a plug 22 to regulate or cut. off the flow of water.
An air pump 2-3 is supported alongside the container by means of a pair of clamping devices consisting of narrow bands con nected so as to form bights 24, 25 and 26 embracing respectively the body 10, a pipe 27 leading from the pump to the body, and
the pump body. The pipe 27 is connected in any desirable manner to the bottom of the pump body and the upper end of the container body. A handle 28 serves to operate the piston of the pump.
It will be seen that the container 10 may be filled with water on other liquid up to any desired level and that the pipe 16 and any attached pipe or tubing may be filled before pumping air into the compressed air space above the liquid thus preventing the formation of a body of compressed air in the pipe 16 or attached tube which must be expelled in advance of the liquid contents of the container.
It will also be evident that my device may be modified in various ways Without departing from the spirit of my invention the true scope of which is indicated in the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. A device of the character described comprising a closed container for liquids, an air pump alongside the same, a pipe connecting the lower end of the pump to the upper end of the container and one or more clamps each embracing the pump, the pipe and the container, and having means for holding the pump, the pipe and the container in spaced relation, substantially as set forth.
2. A syringe comprising a non-metallic receptacle having pairs of annular flanges at intervals, a pump parallel to the receptacle, a pipe connecting the receptacle and pump and having a part parallel thereto, and bands located between each pair of annular flanges and closely embracing the pump, the receptacle and pipe, each of said bands having fastening devices between the pump, receptacle and pipe for holding them in spaced parallel relation, substantially as set torth.v
In witness whereof. I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Indianapolis. Indiana, this 9th day of January, A. D. nineteen hundred and twenty-three.
JOSEPH I-I. SHEA, M. L. SI-IULER.
