Abstract

534,798. Disinfectants. MIDLAND TAR DISTILLERS, Ltd., PARKES, D. W., and EVANS, R. B. Dec. 29, 1939, No. 33045. [Class 81 (i)] [Also in Group III] Tar oils such as creosote are refined so as to yield white, not pink, emulsions with soap and water by blowing the oil with air in the presence of a strong alkali, e.g. caustic soda, and of an oxide, naphthenate or oleate of cobalt, chromium, manganese iron, nickel, zinc, lead or copper. The treatment may be effected at a temperature of 70-120‹ C. and continued from 18 to 24 hours. Examples are given.
