Abstract

533,717. Wireless receiving systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., BEATTY, W. A., and CHATTERJEA, P. K. Aug. 18, 1939, No. 23882. [Class 40 (v)] In an aerial arrangement of the kind described in Specification 523,074, a dipole is located outside the reach of interference due to car ignition, a co-axial down-lead being coupled at an intermediate point, through an impedance-matching network, to a lower line which is screened against local static. The dipole is used alone for short waves, and in combination with the transmission line for long waves. Short-wave signals from the dipole (not shown) pass down the transmission line 11 through by-pass condensers 23, 24 and along the lower transmission line 20 and then via an input transformer 32 to the receiver. Chokes 14, 18, 21 block the short waves from the transformer 15, 17, which feeds the longer waves picked up by the dipole and line 11 to a long-wave receiver through a transformer 27 provided with short-wave chokes 25, 28. The sheath of the lower transmission line is earthed at E. Fig. 3 shows an alternative arrangement in which the lower transmission line consists of twin conductors 19 in an earthed screen 20, the bypassing condensers being paralleled at 24, 29 and at 38, 31.
