Abstract

533,213. Cathode-ray tubes. HOLMAN, H. E. July 7, 1939, No. 19783. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVI] Insulating films are produced on the surfaces of metallic plates or grids, such as the " signal " plate of a television transmitter tube, by electrolytically coating the aluminium, aluminium alloy, or other metal with an oxide film, baking the film, and again electrolysing to produce a second oxide film filling the cracks produced by the baking and also underlying the first film. Subsequent heating of the conductor may cause further cracking, particularly of the underlying film, but such cracks will not in general coincide with those in the outermost layer. Further underlying films may be similarly provided. The films are produced by anodic coating in a bath of 3 to 4 per cent chromium trioxide, using graphite cathodes, the conductor being first heated, polished, immersed in carbon tetrachloride to free it from grease, washed in soap solution and finally in water. Specifications 397,538, 409,679, and 479,401, [all in Group XXXVI], are referred to.
