Abstract
533,191. Chucks. CRZELLITZER, R. Oct. 16, 1939, No. 28002. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iii)] Bevel closing chucks have a cage 9 interposed between the operating sleeve and the jaws which have a plane bearing surface of large area co-operating with a corresponding surface on the cage. The jaw-bearing member 15 screws with a left-hand thread 3 into the body 1 on which the sleeve 16 has a long bearing relieved at 22. A ring 10 is secured to the body, and a ball race 13 engages an annulus 12 retained by a groove and spring ring 11. The annular end of the member 15 has cruciform slots for the jaws, the branches 6 engaging cross pins 5 in the jaws 4. An annulus 20 carries wires 19 engaging holes 7 in the jaws which are of simple form permitting hardening and grinding. The annulus is retained between the body and the cage. The cage may be made as a casting with slots to facilitate breaking into sections to facilitate machining. The sections may be secured to the sleeve by pins 18.
