Abstract

532,804. Coumarilyl acetates. KENDALL, J. D., and COLLINS, R. B. July 22, 1939, No. 21331. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group XX] Ethyl d-coumarilylacetate is prepared by reaction of sodium ethyl aceto-acetate and x-coumarilyl chloride. After addition of ammonia the temperature is raised to 40‹C. The copper-salt is prepared by addition of copper sulphate, and is then decomposed with hydrochloric acid. Ethyl 5-nitro-d-coumarilylacetcate is prepared similarly from 5-nitro-coumarilyl chloride. d- Coumarilylacetamilide, d-coumarilylacet-o-anisidide, d - coumarilylacet - p - anisidide, d - coumarilylacet - o - chlorarilide, and d - coumarilylacet - p - nitranilide are prepared by the reaction of ethyl -coumarilylacetate with the appropriate amine. The compounds have the general formula where R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are the same or different and are hydrogen atoms or substituent groups, such as halogen atoms or hydrocarbon, nitro, amino, hydroxy, or alkoxy groups, R 5 is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group, X is oxygen or sulphur, and Y is OR 6 or NR, R 8 , where R. is a hydrocarbon group and R, and R 8 are the same or different and are hydrogen atoms or hydrocarbon groups or together form a heterocyclic residue.
