[Class 95] [Also in Group V] A sheet or layer of cellular material is formed or coated upon a surface by spraying thereon a composition comprising rubber latex or a solution of bituminous material or synthetic resin-forming material and a substance or mixture of substances which evolve gas either upon contact with an acid or upon heating under conditions resulting in the evolution of gas in association with the sprayed particles. Rubber latex, preferably mixed with fillers, and containing a carbonate or bicarbonate is sprayed simultaneously with a spray of weak acid, e.g. formic or acetic acid, either upon a smooth surface, e.g. glass, to form a strippable layer, or upon a surface roughened or coated with an adhesive coating, e.g. a pigment and a drying oil. The adhesive, e.g. resin, may be mixed with the latex. Alternatively, the composition may contain a gas-forming compound, e.g. ammonium nitrite, and be sprayed upon a heated surface, e.g. metal heated to 300‹F. Pigments may be included in the composition. In place of rubber latex, a solution of bituminous material such as asphalt or a solution of phenolic or polybyolic alcoholpolybaric acid resins may be employed, such solution containing an alkali metal carbonate L. and being sprayed, simultaneously with acid, on to a heated surface.
