Abstract
532,388. Railway vehicles. BUDD MANUFACTURING CO., E. G. July 19, 1939, No. 20984. Convention date, June 12. [Class 103 (iv)] The body ends of railway vehicles are formed by welding panels to a framework comprising members identical with the arched roof supports and arranged in radial planes with reference to a surface of revolution including the endmost roof members. The frame members 1, arched like the roof members 2, are secured to shock beams 3 forming continuations of the roof sills 4, and to curved posts 5 forming continuations of the roof girders 6. The beams 3 are secured to the undercarriage 32 by gussets 13, and the posts 5 by angle pieces 5<SP>1</SP>. Lapped joints are provided between the beams 3 and sills 4, and between the posts 5 and girders 6, gussets 23 being provided for this purpose. The end includes two side panels 7 fitted with windows 9, and a central panel 8 fitted with a window 10, the window frames being formed in the panels independently of the frame members 1, 3, 5. The body panels are secured by lapped joints B, C.
