Abstract

532,350. Overload-release clutches. ANDERSON, A., ANDERSON, BOYES & CO., Ltd. Aug. 21, 1939, No. 24003. [Class 80 (ii)] A driving member 1 has clutch teeth engaging teeth on a driven member 2 splined on a shaft 3, the clutch teeth being so inclined that they tend to disengage under torque. A lever 4 pivoted at 5 carries rollers 6 forced against the member 2 by a spring 9 acting upon an adjustable screw 7 through a cap 12 screwed into a sleeve 10 sliding in a guide 11. The lower end of the sleeve has an inturned flange and is integral with a cam 13 adapted to bear against a roller 8 on a crank-pin 17 carried by a shaft 18 provided with a re-setting lever 20. The roller 8 is normally retained in a position slightly beyond the top dead centre by a stop 21. A second stop 23 is provided on the other side. A plunger 14 slidable within the sleeve has a shank 15 guided in a socket 16 in cap 12. When overload occurs, the element 2 is moved axially, the lever 4 rocked and the sleeve 10 depressed. The cam 13 pushes the roller 8 towards the right thus removing the abutment for the plunger 14 and the lower end of the spring 9 engages the inturned flange on the sleeve and the spring is disabled. The element 2 of the clutch is now disengaged and is supported in this position by light compression springs 24. To effect reengagement, the roller 8 is restored to its normal position by the lever 20.
