Abstract
531,576. Motor vehicle dust-excluding engine casings. PORSCHE, F. July 26, 1939, No. 21747. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1938. [Class 79 (iii)] In a vehicle having an elastically - mounted engine the upper part of the engine is shut off from the outside air, in conjunction with body walls 9, 10, by a partition comprising a rigid part 4, 5 and a yielding part 11, 12 the latter part always forming a dustproof connection with the former in spite of movements of the engine relative to the chassis frame. In the construction shown applied to a rear-engine vehicle the rigid plates 4, 5 are secured to the engine and engage between arms 15, 16 of the rubber members 11, 12 secured by plates 14 welded to the body walls 9, 10. The engine is mounted on rubber members 2, 3 and oscillates about a horizontal longitudinal axis S in the same plane as the partition members, each part 4, 5 always remaining in contact with at least one arm 15 or 16 of the rubber members 11, 12. The engine exhaust pipes 6, 7 are preferably below the partition 4, 5. When the engine is removed the rubber members 2, 3 remain in position. The engine may be supported either at two points or four points, and the rubber parts of the partition may be united to the metal parts, or a bellows joint may be formed of rubber or the like or of metal.
