Abstract
531,023. Adjustable seats. TAN-SAD CHAIR CO. (1931), Ltd., and GABB, A. H. July 10, 1939, No. 20004. [Class 52 (ii)] A vertically adjustable seat adapted to be held in position by an adjustable wedge mechanism comprises an upright tube a carried by a support a<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, having at its upper end a fixed differentially bored sleeve a2 provided with a conical part a<SP>1</SP> between the two bores: Slidable within the fixed tube a<SP>1</SP>, under spring control, is a differential sleeve b having balls or rollers c engaging the conical part of the sleeve a<SP>1</SP> and means are provided for displacing the sleeve b in relation to the fixed sleeve a<SP>2</SP>. The upper part of the sleeve b is tapered and engages a split tapered ring e the ends of which cone may be connected to a Bowden mechanism e<SP>1</SP>, e2, Fig. 1. To adjust the seat the split ring is closed thus securing the sleeve b and releasing the balls. When the desired position is obtained the ring is opened thus allowing the spring b<SP>3</SP> to force the sleeve downwards and lock the spindle g.
