Abstract

530,588. Pencils. KREUTZER, R., and KREUTZER, K. June 26, 1939, No. 18516. Convention date, May 4. [Class 146 (iii)] [Also in Group V] Pencils and other rod-shaped articles are coated with, thermoplastic material by passing each pencil e through a heated box a containing the thermoplastic material, the pencil being inserted through a guide d and withdrawn through a scraper f. An electric heater h and a charging funnel c are provided. A temperature of 100‹ - 150 ‹C. is mentioned and a pressure of 2 - 5 atmosphere may be maintained. Suitable thermoplastic materials are vinyl ester polymerizates, urea aldehyde condensates, polymerized vinyl acetate and phenol-formaldehyde resin combined with other non-volatile substances, such as phthalate plus softening agent, e.g. oil. Suitable filling materials are benzine, heavy spar, and titanic acid anhydride. All dyes stable up to a temperature of 150‹C. may be used for colouring these masses. Artificial resins capable of being hardened may also be used, e.g. of the type phenol-resoles. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 151,862, 159,742, [both in Class 87 (ii)], 422,084 and 463,044, [Group V].
