[Class 38 (v)] A switch housing has one open end, contacts on two opposed sides and a sliding contact carrier reciprocable to co-act with the fixed contacts, inserted, from the open end and a closing means for that end, secured by a snap fastening. In the example an end face 3, reinforced by a metal plate 7, has two sides 4, 5 extending from it, the edges being of channel form to support the other two sides 14 which are of insulation and bear the fixed contacts. A metal contact carrier 20 is of U-section with an integral hollow operating extension 42. A single contact plate on one side and two smaller contacts on the other are supported on the carrier by insulating plates, the contacts being connected by strips 48 passing through clearance holes 45 in the carrier itself.. The closure for the casing is formed as a spring-held plate 67 carrying a housing 73 for a lamp 79, the light from which is visible through a hole 80, the interior of the carrier 20, the hollow spindle 42, and a translucent operating knob 44. Mounted on the insulating sides 14 of the housing are terminal fittings 30, Fig. 20, comprising a hood with spring extension 36 and lugs 31 sprung into slots 34 in the side plates and anchored therein by projections 33. The fixed contacts, which co-operate with those on the carrier 20, are formed by projections 17 formed on metal cable-ends 27 closed on the insulation of the connecting wires 26, and having extensions 23 to .which the cable wires are soldered.
