Abstract

A device for illuminating wall switches, bell pushes, socket outlets &c. comprises an electroluminescent lamp 5 enclosed within a generally flat annular casing 1 of transparent insulating material such as polystyrene having projections 9 on its inner periphery for co-operating with screws of the switch &c. to be illuminated. The electroluminescent lamp comprises an annular metal plate 5 coated on one side 6 with a ceramic material incorporating phosphorus or a compound of phosphorus. The lamp 5 is retained in position within the casing 1 by an annular cover-plate 25 of plastics material. The <PICT:1001951/C4-C5/1> <PICT:1001951/C4-C5/2> <PICT:1001951/C4-C5/3> casing 1 is formed with recesses 13, 14 adjacent the projections 9 and formed with slots 15, 16 for receiving connecting wires 17, 18 for the lamp. The end of the wire 17 is soldered at 19 to the plate 5 and the end 20 of the wire 18 is soldered to a metal clip 21 engaging a strip 24 of ductile metal engaging a strip 22 of insulating material.
