529,935. Locking nuts. HAFELE, J. June 12, 1939, No. 17170. Convention date, June 21, 1938. [Class 89 (i)] A nut is locked by a plate 5 apertured to fit the nut loosely and having a resilient centre portion 6 and dovetailed side flanges 3 that snap over the inclined edges of flats on a washer 1 having a pyramidal projection 2 engaging a recess in the part to be bolted to anchor the washer against rotation. The under side of the washer may be concave to allow sufficient yield so that the nut may always be turned into a lockable position. In a modification for use in confined spaces, the locking member engages only a part of the periphery of the nut and is held from backing away by an upstanding flange on the washer plate.
