529,241. Inks. B.B. CHEMICAL CO., Ltd., PUDDEFOOT, L. E., and WRIGHT, P. F. April 14, 1939, No. 11289. [Class 146 (iii)] [Also in Groups IV and III] A black stain or ink, specially suitable for application to shoe leather, comprises a solution of not less than 1 part by weight of nigrosine base in 2 parts of monochlorobenzene. The solution is preferably diluted with alcohol and with an alcohol-soluble resin and a slow drying solvent, such as diacetone alcohol, methylcyclohexanone or the acetate of ethylene glycol monoethyl ether may be added. In examples are described stains containing (1) nigrosine base, monochlorobenzene and methylated spirit; a more desirable and lustrous finish is obtainable, on subsequent polishing with wax, by incorporating an alcoholic solution of one or more resins and, if necessary, one of the above slow drying solvents with or without a plasticizer; (2) nigrosine base, monochlorobenzene, the acetate of ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, methylated spirit, alcoholic solutions of shellac and sanderac resins and oil of sassafras.
