Abstract

529,228. Decorating composite fabrics. NATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE FIBRES, Inc. May 25, 1939, Nos. 15557, 15558, 15559 and 15560. Convention dates, May 25, 1938, Aug. 1, 1938, Sept. 26, 1938, and May 6, 1939. [Class 140] [Also in Group V] In forming decorative fabrics or fabric-covered panels for automobiles &c. a sheet of uncured rubber or similar material 31 is placed on the back of the fabric 30, and the fabric is pressed by a die 25 against a table 20 or against the surface of the panel, either the die 25 or the table 20 being heated so as to vulcanize the rubber in the deformed position. The.rubber may contain gas-generating materials so as to form a vulcanized rubber sponge. In forming a panel, a layer of padding may be placed between the rubber sheet and the panel plate. The table 20 may be covered by a resilient pad such as a block of vulcanized sponge rubber, or the rubber and fabric may be pressed against a heating conduit having resilient walls. A backing sheet of paper or textile material may be placed below the rubber 31 and become attached to the rubber during the pressing. The fabric may be a textile fabric, felt, leather or leather substitute.
