[Class 135] [Also in Group XXVI] A valve mechansim for reversing the flow of fluid comprises at least two connected disc valves and is prevented from remaining midway between its seats when fluid flow is first established by making the cross sectional area of the space surrounding the disc greater than that surrounding the other. The Figure shows a pulsator for a milking machine which places two conduits 15<SP>1</SP>, 15<SP>11</SP>, leading to teat-cups, alternately into connection with a source of vacuum through a conduit 16 or with the atmosphere through apertures 13, 14 and 9 by means of the rigidly connected valves 2<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>11</SP>. The valve seats 11<SP>1</SP>, 11<SP>11</SP> are smaller than the seats 12<SP>1</SP>, 12", so that, once seated, the valves are held seated by the resultant force of atmospheric pressure acting on a greater area of one than the other. To avoid a pressure difference at the valve 2<SP>1</SP> from counteracting that at the valve 2<SP>11</SP> when starting, the space D is made larger than the space d, and the pulsations are produced by applying the pressures in the valve chambers 7<SP>1</SP>, 7<SP>11</SP> to either side of a diaphragm 5 connected to the valves by a spindle 3 carried in a fluid-tight bearing 4, a throttle valve 19 serving to determine the pulsation rate by regulating the rapidity with which the pressure difference across the diaphragm overcomes the resultant force of atmospheric pressure acting on the valves. The spaces d D preferably have a smaller cross-sectional area than that of other channels, conduits or openings through which the fluid passes.
