Abstract

528,686. Matting textiles. SOC. OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY IN BASLE. May 2, 1939, Nos. 13083 and 13084. Convention dates, May 7; 1938, and April 19, 1939. [Class 15 (ii)] In a process for matting textiles in which water-insoluble urea-formaldehyde condensation products are formed in the materials by treatment in a bath containing acid condensing agents and water-soluble condensation products, the latter contain urea and formaldehyde in a 1:1 ratio and the liquor ratio does not exceed 1:15. The bath may contain monomethylolurea or an equimolecular mixture of urea and dimethylolurea. Suitable condensing agents are hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, formic acid bisulphate or zinc chloride. Examples describe matting natural silk, mercerized cotton, viscose, acetate and copper artificial silk goods at temperatures up fo 25‹ or 30‹C. using liquor ratios of 1:8, 1:10 and 1:15. The textiles may be dyed before or after matting. Specifications 291,473, 291,474, [both in Class 15 (ii)], 467,480 and 469,688 are referred to.
