[Class 81 (ii) ] [Also in Group VII] A surgical suturing instrument comprises a handle on which is mounted a detachable needle having a sharp point and a diagonal eye, the irilet and outlet apertures of which are at different distances from the point. In the construction shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the needle 20 having a diagonal eye 26, is clamped by the screwed end 32 of the handle within a cap member 34. In the modification shown in Fig. 5 the needle 38 is screwed into a socket 40 pivotally mounted in a socket piece 44 into which is screwed the end of the handle 46 which by pressure on the disclike part 41 of the socket 40 allows the needle to be clamped in different angular positions. The form of needle shown in Fig. 9 has an eye formed by two intersecting diagonal orifices. The suture is formed, as shown in Fig. 3, by passing a thread 25 through the loops formed by the needle thread. Specification 411,762, [Group VII], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes a needle holder having a thread spool embodied in the handle. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
