[Class 112] [Also in Group VI] A surgical needle 14 is clamped between a transverse piece 6 on the needle holder 1 and a head 7 on a bolt 10. The bolt 10 is screwed into a nut at the further end of the holder to close the clamp. A thread-guiding hole 22 is provided in the head. The piece 6 has an end part 6b which forms a stop for the needle shank. The surface of the piece 6 is flat and the needle shank may have a corresponding flat surface.
