Abstract
528,369. Making foam. MULLER, J. May 5, 1939, No. 13453. Convention date, May 5, 1938. [Class 47 (ii)] In an apparatus for producing fire extinguishing foam a mixture of water and a foam producing substance is fed under pressure into a jet tube a through a tube b in the mouth of which is a conical distributing body l so that the mixture is ejected as an outwardly diverging jet which impinges on the walls of the jet tube a. A branch c in the tube b ending in a nozzle leads off some of the mixture to drive a turbine wheel g mounted on a shaft f between two partitions e. On the other side of the partitions the shaft f carries propeller wheels h the rotation of which sucks air in at the openings i and delivers it under pressure to the jet tube where it becomes entrained in the mixture impinging on the tube walls to produce foam which is projected by the air and mixture pressure from the jet tube. The position of the cone l is adjustable axially by the rod m and handle o and the amount of foam formed may be thus regulated. In another form the end of the tube b and the distributing body are so shaped that the ejected mixture divides into inwardly diverging streams which impinge on one another before being forced to the walls of the jet tubes.
