Abstract

528,276. Percussive rock drills. MOSS, E. W. (Ingersoll-Rand Co.). May 2, 1939, No. 13130. [Class 124] A fluid actuated rock drill has a valve chamber with reciprocating annular valve having terminal seats, a pair of plates one of which forms a valve seating and is characterized in that cylindrical surfaces, are provided on the plates to co-operate with inner and outer surfaces on the valve to cut off fluid to cylinder during a part of the valve movement. As shown, a casing 21 contains a chamber 23 for a hammer piston 27 and is provided with a passage 63 leading from one end to the valve chamber and a port 71 leading from the other end. A rifle bar 31, ratchet drive 33, and rotary throttle 38 are provided. A reciprocating valve 48 of the type described in U.S.A. Specification 2,048,957 is provided and comprises a series of plates 42, 43, 44 and 45 the latter being integral with a bushing 30.
