Abstract

527,980. Cathode-ray tubes. PEARCE, A. F. April 18, 1939, No. 11658. [Class 39 (i)] The anode of a cathode-ray tube is supported on one end of a tubular insulating member, the other end of which is attached to the end of the tube, so as to lengthen the leakage path between the anode and other electrodes. Fig. 3 shows an anode 1 secured to the tubular member 5 by means of flange 9 of a suitable intermediate sealing material. The member 5 may be made of sections of materials suitable for sealing to the flange 9, the wall of the tube, and for uniting the two other portions. The member 5 is shown as sealed to the tube at a point well beyond conducting elements outside, such as deflecting and scanning coils. A portion of the member 5 may be metallized and serve as a second anode. The tube may be formed with depresssions 13, as described in Specification 507,840, which serve to hold a jig for fixing the anode while the member 5 is being sealed to the tube. The member 5 may be formed as a continuous tube, or as a ring of arms.
