[Class 44] A latch handle for doors, drawers and the like, particularly applicable to motor-vehicle doors comprises a hinged panel 21 normally flush with the surrounding surface of the door 7 and movable inwards by pressure of the fingers 29 to a position, shown dotted, Fig. 3, in which it and its support, can be conveniently gripped simultaneously between the fingers and palm of the operator's hand. In this position a stop 42 on the panel abuts against a rubber cushion 44. An indentation 27 may be provided to receive the finger tips. The panel may be rectangular, semicircular, or other shape, and moves in a housing 34 shaped to give small clearance and avoid a gap between it and the free edge of the panel in which the fingers might be caught. An aperture 46 allows escape of dirt or moisture. The panel is carried by a hinge-pin 32 which is extended to carry a cam 48 and a spring 49 which biasses the panel to normal flush position with the cam resting against the inner surface of door 7, Fig. 5. The cam bears against one arm 51 of a cranked lever pivoted at 54, the other arm 57 engaging a collar 59 secured to a extension 58 of the latch bolt 8 so that inward movement of the panel retracts bolt 8 against the action of its spring 11. The cam is shaped to give initial lost motion so that bolt retraction is effected by the final gripping action on the panel. Inward movement of the panel may be prevented by a bolt 36 shot by external cylinder lock 38 or internal handle 41. Latch bolt 8 may also be withdrawn by internal handle 13 and follower 16.
