Abstract

527,930. Couplings. EMERY, E. F. April 22, 1939, No. 12139. [Class 38 (i)] A bolted connection between two conductors a, b that are coated with insulating material c is made by removing the insulation to form an insular contact area e, interposing a conductive member g, such as a washer with thickened edge, of greater thickness than the insulation c between the conductors, passing a bolt h through holes formed in the contact area, securing the bolt by means of nuts j and enclosing the nuts and bolt ends by insulating caps k. The caps may screw on to the ends h' of the bolt h or the washers i may be enlarged and provided withan upturned edge externally screw-threaded to engage a thread on the skirt of the cap. If the bolt h is the stem of a terminal mounted in a panel or on the end of a cable, the exposed periphery of the terminal may be enclosed by a ring of insulating material fitting against one surface of the conductor through which the stem passes, the cap k screwing down against the other surface.
