Abstract

18,586. Langdon, W. E., Fuller, J. C., and Fuller, G. Aug. 28. Insulators.-Consists of porcelain, hardware, or other electric insulators for supporting aÙrial and other conducting - wires which carry electric currents of high or extra high potential or otherwise, constructed so as to offer the greatest possible resistance between the point of attachment of the wire and the supporting-bolt of the insulator, and to prevent the line-wire from falling, in case of damage to the body of the insulator. The body of the insulator 1 is provided with a threaded or other bolt-hole 2, extending above the circumferential grooves 3, round which the line-wire is passed. The sheds or roofs 4, 5, 6 are so constructed that each upper one completely overhangs all below it, as shown, so that any water or moisture which gathers drips clear of the sheds below. To increase the distance, and hence the resistance, between the linewire and the bolt, the under surfaces of the sheds are formed into serrated ridges with sharp edges 7, this also facilitating the dissipation of moisture which may collect on the under surfaces.
