Abstract

527,277. Ships' stems. BLACHE, H. H., and REBBECK, F. E. April 6, 1939, No. 10728. [Class 113 (ii)] A ship's stem, particularly that portion which extends from above the deepest load water line WLL down to the ballast line WLB, is formed by a D-shaped tubular metal structure a having its convexity forwards and symmetrical with respect to the middle line plane C-D of the ship. The stem may include a transverse perforated or unperforated stiffening plate c so disposed as to leave rearwardly extending flanges on the stem to which the ships' plating b is riveted, welded, or otherwise secured. The stem may be vertical between the lines WLL and WLB and it may extend down even as far as the keel K. Several means of connecting the stem to the keel are described and illustrated in the Specification.
