Abstract
527,070. Insulation. ARNOLD, M. H. M. and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 30, 1939, No. 10020. [Class 36] An insulating liquid, suitable for switches and transformers, comprises one or more tolyl diphenyl phosphates and triphenyl phosphate, the latter serving to lower the freezing point and viscosity of the resultant liquid, but not being present in sufficient amount to cause crystalformation. A freezing point of 14.5‹C. is obtained with a mixture of 27 per cent. by weight triphenyl phosphate with ortho tolyl diphenyl phosphate and one of 22 ‹C. with a mixture of 29 per cent. triphenyl phosphate with the metacompound. A mixture comprising about 10 per cent. triphenyl phosphate, 40 per cent. metacompound, and 50 per cent. ortho-compound has a freezing point of 0‹C. approximately. The Provisional Specification refers also to a mixture of 25 per cent. by weight of triphenyl phosphate with the para-compound, and to a mixture containing the ortho- and para-isomers.
