Abstract
527,037. Nitric acid. CHEMICAL CONSTRUCTION CORPORATION. March 29, 1939, No. 9751. Convention date, March 30, 1938. Drawings to Specification. [Class 1 (ii)] Nitric acid is produced by passing nitrogen oxides and water or dilute nitric acid in counterflow through a series of absorption stages and between successive absorption stages converting NO to NO 2 by subjecting the gas to oxidation, the length of time of oxidation being increased as the strength of the nitric acid increases over the part of the series where the gases are meeting nitric acid stronger than that which produces a maximum NO 2 absorption. A tower plant wherein the reaction places increase in size so as to allow increased time of reaction is described. Specification 495,933, [Group XIII], is referred to.
