Process for the catalytic oxidation of ammonia. The usual procedures
require the oxidation of ammonia with air because of the dilution of the resulting
Nitrogen oxide gases very large absorption spaces. One has therefore already several times
tries to get a higher concentration by burning ammonia with oxygen
the nitrogen oxides and thus a reduction in the necessary absorption space
achieve. These efforts have so far not led to any success, as one of ammonia
and oxygen-rich gas mixture because of the risk of explosion and because of the
Combustion resulting high temperature cannot be applied.
It has now been found that using oxygen or
oxygen-rich gases concentrated nitrogen oxides easily and in excellent yield,
e.g. 9o percent and above, if you do not use the ammonia all at once,
but gradually with transition over several contacts or under multiple
transfer over the same catalyst, taking care in each case that
that there is no explosive ammonia-oxygen mixture. As the ammonia oxidation
is strongly exothermic, the excess is expediently carried behind the individual contacts
Amount of heat that can easily be used profitably, e.g. B. to generate
Steam. It is surprising that the expected effect of the resulting
Nitrogen oxide to the new ammonia with nitrogen formation according to the equation 6N0+.INH3-5N@+6Hz0
not taking place.
benötigt man sehr kleine Absorptionsräume.
The process offers over the simple oxidation of ammonia
great advantages with air in the processing of nitrogen oxides. You get with this
Working method after separation of the water of reaction nitrogen oxide-rich gas mixtures,
which easily contain so percent and more nitric oxide. For further processing of this
Gas mixtures on nitric acid by absorption with water or dilute acid
or on nitrates, e.g. B. by absorption in alkali carbonate or alkali chloride solutions,
you need very small absorption spaces. Nitric acid is easily obtained
of over 55 percent by weight. The liquefaction of these nitrogen oxides is also designed
very easy. The oxygen that may still be present after absorption leads
one expediently to the ammonia combustion again. You can also do this in a cycle
proceed that one the reaction gases again and again over the same contact or
several such conducts and them constantly ammonia and oxygen or oxygen-rich
Gases add and after contact the circulating gas continuously or periodically nitrogen oxide-rich
Gas withdrawn.
Here, too, may still be present after absorption
Oxygen can be returned to the cycle.
Behandlungen vermindert. The present method can also be used under lower or higher
run as atmospheric pressure, with the number of catalytic
Treatments diminished.
