Description
Oxidation of oxidizable phosphorus-oxygen compounds contains phosphoric acid obtained by catalytic oxidation of phosphorus with steam low levels of oxidation of phosphorus, especially phosphorous acid. This Phosphorous acid content is increased in the further processing of the phosphoric acid Fertilizers are undesirable, so it is necessary to oxidize the phosphorous acid.
An oxidation, however, is with the usual means, such as air and Chlorine, not possible; when nitric acid is used, the oxidation is phosphorous Carry out acid only if the nitric acid is in excess and the phosphoric acid and phosphorous acid content of the solution is at least 60%.
It has now been found that almost complete oxidation is more oxidizable Phosphorus-oxygen compounds with the theoretically necessary amount of nitric acid , can be achieved if the reaction takes place at temperatures above 80 ° and in the closed Vessel is made. In contrast to the oxidation in an open vessel at atmospheric pressure can in this way of working z. B. also solutions that contain phosphoric acid and phosphorous acid of only 45% are oxidized. That with the oxidation Nitrogen oxide evolved can be in the reaction vessel itself or by itself after dissipation regenerated from the vessel with air or oxygen to nitrogen dioxide and so for Oxidation can only be used. Example An aqueous solution of phosphoric acid of density 44, which has a content of: 495% phosphorous acid, calculated on Phosphoric acid, is in the amount theoretically necessary for oxidation Nitric acid is added and the mixture is heated to I20 ° in a pressure vessel. During the reaction the pressure rises to 1.3 at. The `phosphoric acid; contains after this treatment only about 0.05% phosphorous acid.
