Abstract

1409094 Oxidation catalyst CHEVRON RE SEARCH CO 21 Nov 1972 [22 Nov 1971] 53803/72 Heading B1E [Also in Division C2] Oxidation catalyst compositions comprising anhydrous mixed oxides of vanadium and pentavalent phosphorus are formed by multi-stage dehydration and calcination of the corresponding dihydrate. A dihydrate having a P:V atomic ratio of 1:1 to 2:1, wherein the vanadium has an average valence of 3.9 to 4.5 is heated at 370-394‹C under a flowing stream of oxygen containing gas to form the corresponding monohydrate. The monohydrate is then similarly calcined to give the anhydrous oxide either in two stages at 395-425‹C and 450 to 500‹C or in a single stage at 395-600‹C. The initial dihydrate is formed by precipitation from aqueous solution.
