[Class 68 (i)] A hydraulic cartridge for breaking-down coal &c. comprising a body with cylinders fitted with rams, includes at least one ram for dislodging purposes the line of action of which is inclined to the line of action of the breaking- down ram or rams. The body 10 has transverse cylinders 11 containing double-stroke rams 14, 15, or single-stroke rams, movement of the rams being limited by pins 13; these rams may extend radially in the same direction or in different directions. Ports 16, 17 supply pressure fluid to the rams. At the inner end of the body is a cylinder 19 parallel to the axis of the body and containing a similar but preferably larger ram 20, the cylinder 19 being supplied with fluid through a port 21, preferably only when the radial rams have completed the whole or a predetermined part of their stroke so as to effect dislodgement of the coal after it is broken down ; the port 21 is restricted so that opening of the port does not cause subsidence of the radial rams.
