[Classes 108 (i) and 108 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] A motor vehicle underframe of trough formation is distinguished by the disposition within an outer trough 10 of an inner trough 11 of the same length and width as the outer trough, but spaced from it. One trough may be formed with a number of cup-like depressions or elevations 15 which touch the other trough and are rigidly connected thereto. In the inner trough relatively large depressions 16, 17 may form footwells or engine space and the bottom of the trough may be raised at the front part of the vehicle to serve as a cover for parts of forwardly disposed mechanism, the rising part 24 serving as a foot-rest. In the construction shown the side walls 22 of the inner trough are drawn inwardly at the rear to come close to the engine to be supported. The troughs are connected, preferably by spot-welding, at the edges, and the upper body part 14 may be connected thereto. At the point where the helical springs 19 for the rear axle are situated the wall of the outer trough may be interrupted and a semicircular reinforcement part 20 welded as in the upper part of Fig. 2, or the wall 32 may be drawn inwardly as in the lower part of Fig. 2. Where the walls of the troughs are pierced for the passage of axles &c. reinforcements such as the tubular parts 37, 38, 39 are provided.
