Abstract
525,686. Gas burners. STEVENS, A. H. (Coppus Engineering Corporation). Feb. 25, 1939, No. 6290. [Class 75 (i)] A gas burner for furnaces comprises a rotatable device 6, or 41, on the gas conduit 20 adapted to draw air axially through the mixing- tube 7 and discharge gas substantially transversely into the air stream. As shown in Fig. 1, the device 6 is rotatable on ball bearings 28 by the gas issuing from radially-spaced apertures 35 in hollow propeller blades 31. Gas issues also through radially-spaced longitudinallydirected apertures 37 in the blades and through apertures 38 in the casing 29. Wings 36 are provided on the blades for drawing air into the tube 7 through inlets 14, controlled by a hit and miss regulator 16. A cover plate 18 is provided with air inlets 19 to prevent undue heating. Oil is supplied from a vessel 26 into the gas stream for lubricating purposes. A shield 39 is secured to the conduit 20 for directing any leakage of gas towards the propeller. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, the casing 43, carrying solid fan blades 61, is rotated on ball bearings 46, 48 by the gas issuing from apertures 54 in the conduit acting on turbine blades 55-58 fixed in alternate annular rows to the conduit and casing respectively, the gas passing to radial outlets 60 and through a perforated plate 50 to outlets 53 in the end wall of the casing. The solid blades 61 may be replaced by hollow blades 62, Fig. 9, communicating through apertures 64 with the conduit 20 and provided with outlet slots 63. When the gas pressure is insufficient, the device 6 may be secured to the conduit 20 and the latter be rotated by means of an external source of power.
