Abstract

884,409. Turbine blades. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. April 19, 1960 [April 27, 1959], No. 14219/59. Class 110 (3). A turbine blade has a duct therein adapted to be supplied with cooling fluid which passes in streams from the duct through a plurality of slots in the blade arranged so that the streams intermingle over the external surface. In the hollow gas turbine inlet guide vane, Fig. 2, cooling fluid enters a tube 25 disposed forwardly of a dividing wall 22 and issues in a jet from an aperture 30 to strike the internal surface of the vane at the centre of the leading edge where the peak temperature occurs. The coolant subsequently passes to the rear chamber and issues from the orifices 29. In other embodiments some of the cooling fluid is allowed to escape through apertures in the leading edge of the blade as well a through orifices corresponding to the orifices 29.
