Abstract

525,575. Treating gases with liquids. BAMAG, Ltd., and MANNING, A. H. Feb. 23, 1939, No. 6042. [Class 55 (ii)] In towers used in chemical processes, i.e., contact towers, dephlegmators and bubble towers, the weight of the tower is supported resiliently at spaced intervals throughout its height. The tower comprises a superposed series of bubble or contact supporting elements 2 some or all of which are supported by springs 8 at intervals through the height of the tower, directly or through outer casing sections. The tower is formed from uniform sections 2 of ferro-silicon. potware or metal with conically flared ends 3 carrying clamping rings 4 secured by nuts and bolts 5, some of which are eye bolts and are engaged by hooks 7 anchored on coil compression springs 8 bearing on brackets 9 on an external steel frame 10. Alternate sections have inward peripheral flanges 11 engaged by outward peripheral flanges 12 on inner contactor bubble elements 1.
