Abstract

525,099. Dyeing textiles. SOC. OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY IN BASLE. Feb. 16, 1939, Nos. 5111 and 5112. Convention dates, Feb. 19, 1938 and Jan. 16, 1939. [Class 15 (ii)] Printing.-In the printing of ice colours on cellulosic textile material by the process of Specification 449,267, the strength and purity of the shades are enhanced by incorporating thiodiglycol in the printing preparations. In examples, (1) an aqueous paste containing 41 - chloro - 2 - aminodiphenyl - ether - 4 - carboxylic acid ethyl ester, the sodium salt of the formaldehyde condensation product from the 2<SP>1</SP>-anisidide of 2:3-hydroxynaphthoic acid, sodium nitrite, caustic soda, sodium acetate, thiodiglycol and wheat starch-tragacanth thickening is printed on goods of cotton or regenerated cellulose fibres, with or without an admixture of wool or silk, and the printed material is dried, treated with formic or hydrochloric acid and thereafter with a dilute solution of sodium carbonate, rinsed and soaped to obtain a pure deep red print ; (2) pure deep violet, blue and Bordeaux red prints are similarly obtained with 2 - methoxy - 5 - methyl - 4 - benzoylaminoaniline 2:5 - diethoxy - 4 - benzoylaminoaniline and 4-benzoylaminoaniline respectively as diazo components and the anilide of 2:3-hydroxynaphthoic acid as coupling component and a navy blue print with 2:5-diethoxy-4-benzoylaminoaniline as diazo component and the 1<SP>1</SP>-naphthylamide of 2:3-hydroxynaphthoic acid as coupling component; (3) a pure deep blue print is similarly obtained with 2:5-diethoxy-4- (21-methyl) phenoxyacetylaminoaniline as diazo component and the 3<SP>1</SP>-chloranilide of 2:3- hydroxynaphthoic acid as coupling component.
