Abstract

The invention comprises dyes of formula <FORM:0838307/IV(c)/1> where A is a naphthalene radicle containing 3 sulphonic acid groups, B is a 1,4-phenylene or naphthalene residue which may be substituted other than by hydroxyl, amino or monosubstituted hydroxyl groups, R is H, Me or Et and X is Hlg. They are made by reacting a cyanuric halide with a compound of formula A-N= N-B-NH.R. Reaction is preferably effected in an aqueous medium in the presence of an alkaline-binding agent, the product being isolated from the medium at pH 6.5. Cyanuric bromide and chloride are specified. Examples of specified trisulpho-naphthylamines are 1-naphthylamine 2,4,6- and 2-naphthylamine-3,6,8-trisulphonic acids. Examples of components corresponding to B are o-toluidine, 3-amino-4-methoxytoluene, N-ethyl-m-toluidine and 1-naphthylamine-6-sulphonic acid. The dyes, in the form of their alkali metal salts, colour silk, wool, regenerated protein and cellulosic textile materials from an aqueous solution (which may be a thickened printing paste) in conjunction with an alkaline treatment vide Specification 797,946. They also dye silk, wool, regenerated protein; polyamide and polyacrylonitrile textile materials from a weakly acid to neutral bath and silk, wool and regenerated protein textile materials may be printed by conventional methods. Yellow and orange shades are obtained. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in dyeing cellulosic materials.
