Abstract
524,284. Fire-extinguishing. TENNANT, W. J. (Fonta Soc. Anon.). Jan. 25, 1939, No. 2644. [Class 47 (ii)] [Also in Group I] , A device for picking-up and extinguishing incendiary bombs comprises a casing consisting of a main part 1a and a cover 1b hinged to it at ls. The main part is fitted with wheels 2 and a long handle 4, and a container 7, for an extinguishing powder and having a fusible bottom, is pivoted in the cover and supported by a metal strip 12. The entire casing is lined with fire-resistant material 5, such as asbestos, and the cover also has fire-resistant coverings 6 of gypsum or the like: Normally, the cover is held open by a fusible strut 8. In use, the device is pushed against a burning bomb. When the strut melts, the cover falls, and a prong 1z on it lifts the bomb into the casing. The cover then is locked to the main part by a catch 10, 11. The bottom of the container 7 also melts, discharging the powder upon the bomb, and the container falls about its pivot to cover the bomb. In a modification, the container 7 is carried by a removable panel in the main part.
