Abstract

524,137. Food preparations ; medicines. ZUNKER, F. Jan. 23, 1939, No. 2342. [Classes 49 and 81 (i)] To obtain a nutrient or medicinal liquid rich in albumen from fresh grasses, clover or like herbage, the liquid which has been extracted by pressure or centrifugation, from plants which have been heated or steamed, is treated with an organic solvent which does not mix with it and finally, if necessary, concentrated in vacuo The concentrated liquid may be treated electro-osmotically in order to remove the excess salt content. Benzene, toluene, xylene, petroleum ether, benzine, ether, carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulphide and chloroform are mentioned as suitable organic solvents, such solvents serving to remove alkaloids, bitter principles, cumarin and essential oils. The product can be stabilized by the addition of a preservative such as a para-oxy-benzoic acid ester or can be changed into a solid form by the addition of carbohydrates.
