Abstract
524,106. Preventing and minimizing fires. MILNERS' SAFE CO., Ltd., and JACKSON, J. F. Jan. 23, 1939, No. 2223. [Class 47 (ii)] A shutter, door, or the like is loaded to close automatically and is normally restrained by a detent controlled by a fusible link or the like. The door can ordinarily be opened by power sufficient to overcome frictional brake means. A roller blind type mounted on a shaft, Fig. 1, is shown although the invention may be applied to a vertical hinged door. On the shaft 1 is an element 3 of a freewheel slidable on the shaft by a spring 4. Pawls of the freewheel engage a toothed disc 5 in constant mesh with a bevel wheel 6 connected to fly weights 9 engaging a stationary brake drum 11. Between discs 12, 13 also sliding on the shaft 1 is a ratchet wheel 14 and a friction disc 15. The wheel 14, Fig. 2, is normally locked by a pawl 16, on a lever 18 pivoted to the frame. The opposite end of the lever 18 lies in the path of a weight 20 which can drop whenever a stop 21 is drawn away from another stop 22 as by a spring 25, Fig. 1, released by a fusible link 24.
