Abstract

1,013,115. Door operating mechanisms. E. HILL ALDAM & CO. Ltd. Jan. 31, 1963 [Feb. 2, 1962], No. 4177/62. Heading E2M. An operating mechanism for a vertically movable door has a rotatable clutch which includes a driven member having a screwthreaded portion on which is threaded a rotatable driving member, the driven member mounting a first member of a one-way rotary coupling, the driven and driving members being such that when the driving member rotates in one direction relatively to the driven member it can reach a position in which the first member or the rotary coupling is made to rotate with the driven member and when the driving member rotates in the opposite direction the driven member is freed from the coupling. The driven member comprises a spindle 6 having a chain sprocket 16, flange 18, a threaded part 22, a ratchet wheel 28 which co-operates with a spring biased pawl 30, and an annulus 32 of friction material. A rest 34 and chain wheel 36 form the driving member. A shaft 38 extends across the doorway supporting a wire 42 and is connected through sprockets 16, 44 to the clutch. In operation, to raise the door nut 3 is rotated towards the ratchet 28 to move the friction material 32 against the flange 18, whereupon the members move with the spindle to wind the wire 42. To lower the door, the nut 34 is rotated in the opposite direction to free the flange 18. If the door falls independently of the chain wheel 36, the threaded portion 22 rotates relatively to the nut 34 to brake the fall of the door. The door is supported by torsion springs (not shown in drawings.)
