Abstract
524,085. Pressure gauges. JAGER, B. M. Jan. 21, 1939, No. 2121. [Class 106 (ii)] One of a pair of chambers is connected to the source of pressure to be measured and the other to the said source or to the first chamber through a valve which opens solely at a predetermined pressure difference between the two chambers electrically operated means subject to this pressure difference operating a visible or audible signal. A diaphragm 13 divides the casing 12 into two chambers or compartments 14, 15. Pressure fluid is admitted to chamber 14 at 16. The diaphragm 13 carries a contact arm 17 and a pair of contacts 18, 19 adapted to engage contacts 20, 21 carried by resilient arms 22, 23 leading to terminals 24, 25. The arm 17 is connected to a terminal 27. These terminals are in circuit with a battery, condenser, and a pair of lamps a green one for terminal 24 and red for 25, the terminal 27 being a return. The part of arm 17 on the other side of the diaphragm slides on a guide 28 and has a recess formed by two inclined walls between which rests a roller 29 carried by a push rod 30, the upper end of which carries a valve 31 spring loaded at 32. The end of the rod 30 enters a blind hole in the valve a light spring 60 is located between the valve and a collar on the rod. A guiding link 30a is fitted as shown. Upon a rise in pressure, the diaphragm moves to the right, contact is made at 18, 20 and a green light shows. The displacement of the diaphragm to the right causes the rod 30 to open the valve and after a short lag the pressure is equalized and the lamp extinguished. On a fall in pressure the red lamp is lit and after a lag extinguished. This intermittent action of the lights causes the operator to bring the. pressureto its required level. In a modification in which the two chambers are separated by a rigid partition, a variation in pressure in one chamber is effective on a mercury bath which either operates the valve or in effect constitutes the relief valve below the chambers.
