Abstract

523,977. Making bearings. BUHLER, G. Jan. 18, 1939, No. 1739. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Altering molecular structure.-White metal bearings are formed by kneading an alloy having lead or tin as the main constituent so as to lengthen, widen, or reduce its thickness by at least 5 per cent., and then pressing the alloy on to the roughened inner surface of the bearing carrier. The kneading operation is preferably performed, cold by drawing or pressing, and the alloy is preferably in tubular form for this operation so that it may be cut into lengths and secured directly into the carrier. The process is stated to reduce the tendency of a bearing to seize.
