Abstract
523,841. Equalising tension in multisuspension ropes. EXPRESS LIFT CO., Ltd., and DIXIE, W. A. Jan. 16, 1939, No. 1442. [Class 78 (ii)] The two suspension ropes 6, 7, Fig. 3, of a lift cage are passed round pulleys 2, 3 on the cage and then connected at 16 to the opposite ends of a slotted sliding bar 8 guided by pins 12 on the cage. In Fig. 1 showing a 4-rope suspension, the ends of the two ropes 6 are connected to opposite ends of a lever 11 pivoted at 10 to one end of the sliding bar 8. The ropes 7 are connected similarly to another lever pivoted on the opposite end of the sliding bar. In this case the spindles 2, 3 of the pulleys serve also as the pins on which the bar 8 is guided. In Fig. 4, showing a 6-rope suspension, two ropes 6 are connected to opposite ends of the bar 11 which is pivoted to a link 13 connected to one end of the lever 14 pivoted at 17 to the sliding bar 8. The third rope 15 is pivoted directly to the lever 14 with double the leverage that the link 13 has. Similar fittings for the other three ropes are arranged at the opposite end of the bar 8. The guide pulleys 4, 5 are arranged in all cases so that they do not deflect the hanging portion of the rope substantially from its vertical position.
