Lifting-dogs.-The gripping-members consist of a pair of levers 5 pivoted at points 6 intermediate of their length to the ends of a pair of links 7 which are pivoted one to the other at 11. The inner arms of the levers 5 are connected at their common pivot 15 to the lifting rope 18, 19, and at the outer ends to the releasing rope 21, 22. The links 7 each consist of two parallel bars carrying a guide-pulley 8 for the releasing rope. The links 7 also carry a guide pulley 9 for the lifting rope.
